Eurométropole, Fareco (Fayat subsidiary) and Geoloc Systems presented an application at the ITS conference that allows drivers to adapt their driving to make traffic lights go green.

At the heart of smart mobility

The experiment was conducted at the Strasbourg music and conference centre, which was hosting the European smart transport systems trade show. Five sets of traffic lights - including one across the tramway - were equipped in advance with a small box connected to the traffic light cabinet. These boxes communicate with an application embedded in the vehicle using a tablet - which may later be built into the dashboard.

The application is based on traffic light phase data and vehicle geolocation to calculate the time left before the traffic lights go green.

The advantages of the system? It makes for smoother driving and free-flowing traffic and improves the vehicle's carbon footprint by avoiding sudden acceleration and braking.
