Contractors are constantly faced with new challenges in terms of increasing construction costs. Innovation is the best solution. The Italian company CGS Group with its subsidiary CGS Consolidamenti s.r.l. faced these challenges in building a new bypass in Forli (Italy). First of all, the asphalt layer was produced using an in-situ mixing process.
For this the company used a BOMAG MPH 600 with FLEXMIX technology and fully automated metering equipment for water and foam bitumen.
The unique BOMAG FLEXMIX technology was the key to success in the face of the high demands of this job. On the recycled asphalt material which was laid in a layer thickness of 18 cm the grading curve was aligned perfectly to requirements.
During the process, the fully automated water spray system on the MPH600 provided optimum water content. Water was continuously fed into the mix at the right quantity according to preselected target values and was monitored constantly.
In addition to cement, bitumen was used as a binder. The hot bitumen was foamed using the MPH 600's powerful foam bitumen injection system and was constantly monitored during injection into the mix. The excellent quality of the foam bitumen and the perfect distribution by the new rotor fitted with BOMAG BRS 05 interchangeable holders ensured the success of the work.
The final compaction of the base layer was performed easily using a BOMAG BW 213 DH VARIOCONTROL single drum roller.
